Heatwave alert issued for eight districts as unbearable heat grips Odisha

A yellow warning for heat wave has been issued for a few places of eight districts of Odisha today. The temperature to rise by 3-5 degrees.

Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continue to reel under extreme heat wave conditions on Tuesday. The Meteorological Centre of IMD here has predicted that the maximum day temperature will rise by 3 to 5 degree Celsius during next two days at many places over the districts of Odisha. IMD has also issued heatwave alert for various parts of Odisha for the next two days.

The state is reeling under sweltering heat under the influence of Dry Westerly/Northwesterly winds and high solar isolation. The MeT has issued a 45 degree temperature alert in Odisha over few districts.

According to the latest weather forecast, yellow warning for heat wave condition has been issued for a few places over the districts of Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh and Balangir for today.

Similarly, few places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh and Balangir has also received a yellow warning for heat wave condition for May 18, 2023.

Yesterday, the temperature was above 40 degree Celsius in 18 cities of the state. Balangir was the hottest city with 44.4 degrees Celsius, while Titilagarh was reeling under the heatwave conditions at 44 degrees. The temperature was 43.6 degrees Celsius in Jharsuguda and 43.5 degrees Celsius in Bhawanipatna.

The Meteorological Centre has issued a warning for lightning, thunder and stormy winds to 16 districts for May 18th and 12 districts for May 19th.

People have been advised to take necessary precautions and to avoid stepping outdoors during 11 am to 3 pm. In case it is extremely essential to step out, precautionary measures should be taken while going outside during day time.
