Healthcare hit at SCB after blood testing machine malfunctions

KalingaTV News Network

Cuttack: Patients and their relatives had a tough time at SCB Medical on Friday, after the newly introduced hi-tech blood testing machine at the hospital’s blood bank went defunct.

As per reports, the Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) device kept at the blood bank developed a technical snag in the afternoon with several blood samples lined up for final test before being allowed for transfusion. Similarly, surgeries scheduled to be held under different departments were either delayed or cancelled due to the discrepancy sparking resentment among the relatives of the patients.

“I got my wife admitted in the hospital two days ago. She has been detected with blood cancer. However, I am facing problem in getting blood from the blood bank here. I suspect the delay is probably due to the defunct machine,” said Anam Patra, a patient’s attendant.

However, the medical authorities have ruled out possibility of scarcity of blood in the hospital and said adequate amount of blood is in stock. They also maintained that no surgeries or transfusions have been delayed due to the technical snag in the NAT.

“The NAT unit which had developed some error and was malfunctioned has not delayed any surgical or other medical procedures in the hospital as there was adequate blood in the stock. We have sorted out the error in the machine and it has been repaired,” said a medical staff.
