Sambalpur: Emergency healthcare services were badly affected in the district in the wake of the Odisha Ambulance Services Employees’ Union strike which entered its 3rd day on Saturday.

Hundreds of 108 Ambulance staffs staged a protest before Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North Division) office this morning and resorted to sloganeering against the dilly-dallying of the government in addressing their issues.

Addressing the protest meet, senior BJP leader and former State Transport Minister Jaynarayan Mishra severely criticized the NGO which has partnered with the Odisha Government to operate the 108 ambulance service and claimed it to be harassing the staffs. He said government should operate the service on its own.

Union’s president Subash Chouhan who also addressed the meet, warned the government to fulfill all the demands of the ambulance staffs failing which they would intensify their strike.

Notably, Ambulance staffs are on strike since December 21, demanding removal of the NGO partnering with government for the 108 Ambulance service, 8-hour duty time and regularisation of job among others.
