Berhampur: A hardcore criminal, who was injured in a police encounter near Baghua forest under Buguda police limits in Ganjam district yesterday night, died here this morning.
The deceased gangster has been identified as Srikant Rana of Bharatpur area in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Rana and another criminal Gaura Swain of Mudulipali in Bhanjanagar had an exchange of fire with the police when the latter went to arrest them yesterday night. Both the assailants had sustained bullet injuries on their legs. They were initially rushed to Buguda hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital as their condition deteriorated. However, Rana died this morning while undergoing treatment.
Sources at the police said that several criminal cases including extortion, loot, kidnapping, bombing are pending against the duo at different police stations of the state.
