Harassment Slur: Odisha Min orders closure of shelter homes run by accused NGO

Balasore: Initiating action against the ‘Good News India’ NGO in Beltikri shelter home minor girl sexual harassment case, Odisha Women & Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal today ordered for the closure of all shelter homes run by it in the State.

Informing on the action Samal said, the district Collector has been ordered to take immediate step for the closure of concerned shelter home and told to shift its inmates to a nearby shelter home run by a different operator.

Notably, the accused NGO is operating around 26 shelter homes at different locations across the state.

Assuring that no guilty in the child sexual harassment case will be spared, Samal informed that the Managing Director of Beltikri shelter home Faiz Rahaman has been arrested by police along with its in-charge Simanchal Nayak.

The sexual harassment of minors at the hands of the authorities came to light yesterday after a group of inmates informed it to the media.

Later, a joint team of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and District Child Protection Unit raided the shelter home and verified its documents. During the verification it came to notice that the shelter home was operating in the area since past two years without a registration under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015. At least 54 minor girls and 40 minor boys were residing in the shelter home.
