Malkangiri: The much-awaited Gurupriya Setu (bridge) in the cut-off areas of the Maoist-hit district will be inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on July 18. This was informed by Chitrakonda MLA Dambaru Sisa.

Speaking to the reporters, Sisa said all works of the bridge have already been completed and the Chief Minister will inaugurate it on July 18.

Notably, former Chief Minister Janaki Ballabh Patnaik had laid the foundation stone of the 910-meter-long Gurupriya setu in 1982 and again by current CM Naveen Patnaik in 2000.

Since Maoists have been opposing the construction of the project, security has been tightened along with round-the-clock. Six high-resolution CCTV cameras have been installed at different locations of the bridge to protect the bridge.

The 910-metre long bridge is expected to resolve all the problems of communication for around 30,000 people of nearly 150 villages in the cut-off area in and around the Kalimela and Chitrakonda reservoirs.
