Amit ShahAhmedabad: BJP National President Amit Shah on Monday informed the Special Court here that former Gujarat Minister Dr. Maya Kodnani was not present in Naroda Gam area on the day when riots broke out in February, 2002.

The BJP Chief appeared in the court today following summons issued by the Special court on last Tuesday. He was summoned by the court as one of the defense witness of Kodnani, one of the accused in Naroda Gam riot case.

Shah told the Court that he had met Kodnani at Gujarat Assembly on 28th February 2002, a day after Sabarmati Express train was torched at Godhra railway station. He also informed that he had visited Sola Civil Hospital as the dead bodies of Godhra train carnage were brought there, where he had also met Kodnani.

“Mayaben Kodnani was not at Naroda Gam but at the State Assembly at 8.30 am. From 9.30 am to 9.45 am, I was at the Civil Hospital and I met Maya Kodnani there,” Shah was quoted as having told the court.

Ironically, Kodnani never mentioned Amit Shah’s name as her defense witness in the Naroda Patiya massacre case in which she has already been sentenced to life imprisonment. 97 persons had lost their lives in the massacre.
