Berhampur: Odisha youth Manoj Kumar Maharana has set a new record by earning a place in the Guinness World Records by breaking three records.
Manoj, a native of Bhabarada village of Polsara block in Ganjam district, created the Guinness World Records after he stuffed 533 drinking straws in his mouth and keeping it for 30 seconds. Har Parkash of Mumbai was holding the record earlier. He had stuffed 496 straws in his mouth in 2011.
Manoj also broke the second record by holding 40 lit candles in his mouth for 40 seconds, surpassing the record of Dinesh Shivnath of Mumbai, who had created the record by holding 37 candles in his mouth for 30 seconds.
Likewise, he made his third record by flipping a 6.5 centimetre long toothpick in his mouth for 32 minutes and rotated the toothpick in 360-degree angle.
“I had written to the officials of the Guinness World Records to attempt a record in Mathematics. However, it failed due to some reason. But the interest to create a record was always in me and I am extremely happy that I smashed three Guinness records on a single day,” said Manoj.
“I was also keen to make a history as there is very less number of Guinness World Records (only 11) from Odisha. Therefore, I want to make the maximum number of records and give Odisha a recognition in the World map,” he added.
Berhampur Tehsildar Dayamaya Padhi, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax and GST Bibhudutta Acharya, BDA (Berhampur Development Authority) Secretary Sambit Kumar Rout and All India Radio, Berhampur Programme head Hrusikesh Panigrahi witnessed the historic moment at a private computer institute here.
Bhagaban Maharana and Gitanjali Maharana’s son Manoj, a PG qualified in Mathematics, had earlier was placed in Guinness World Record in November 2017 by cramming 459 drinking straws in his mouth and holding those for 10 seconds without using his hands.
