Group clash post-Holi leaves several injured in Odisha’s Jeypore

Jeypore: Several persons were injured in a bloody group clash between two villages that took place after Holi celebration under Jeypore Sadar police limits of Odisha’s Koraput district this afternoon.

According to police, people of Dhepaguda and Kundariguda villages were taking bath in a nearby canal after playing Holi at 3.30 pm. However, a heated exchange of words began between them over a long-standing rivalry which turned violent as both the groups engaged in brick and stone peltings.

On being informed, a team of Sadar Police rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. They had to open four rounds of fire to disperse the irate people as the situation went out of their control.

Adequate police personnel of Town Police and Mahila Police stations have been deployed at the spot to maintain law and order as the situation continue to be tense in the area.  

The pelting of bricks and stones left several people injured. Two bikes were also damaged in the incident, said sources.

All the injured persons, meanwhile, have been admitted to the Jeypore sub-divisional hospital for treatment.
