Group clash erupts in Joda area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district

Keonjhar: Tension erupted between two groups of people in Joda area in Keonjhar district of Odisha today while some people sustained injury. Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse the agitated mob.

As per reports, people from two communities faced off today in Joda area. Yesterday Akhada procession was being conducted in Joda on the occasion of Ram Navami.

Some people of a certain community wanted to march up to the Lord Shiva temple in a flag procession. However, Police did not give permission for this. Later, Police had suggested that only 5 persons would be allowed to go along with the flags. However, this was also not allowed anticipating law and order situation.

Reportedly, the agitating people blocked road near the Hanuman temple near the State Bank. After some time when they were out in the flag procession, some people from another community opposed them. Accordingly, tension erupted.

Police tried to convince both the groups for peace but in vain and both the groups soon got engaged in pelting of stones, and throwing of glass bottles. They also ransacked some cabins.

Getting no other way Police resorted to blank fire to take control of the situation. In the group clash, some people sustained injured.

The Champua Sub Collector, Badbil SDPO, Tahsildar are present on the spot to take control of the situation while Policemen are trying to control the situation.
