Group clash in Balasore village; 10 including 2 cops hurt, 5 held

Balasore: At least 10 persons including two policemen were hurt after group clash erupted during a public meet in Ganipur village under Remuna Police Station area in the district last night.

Ganipur panchayat had convened a meeting in the village last night and a local sand quarry lease holder had been called upon to attend the meeting. However, a dispute occurred at the meeting venue when a group of villagers reached there and started claiming that they had not been properly intimated. The dispute escalated into a heated argument and then into a pitched battle in which members of both the groups indulged in stone pelting, leaving at least eight persons injured.

After Remuna Police got the information and reached the spot to maintain law and order situation, the attackers even targeted the cops with stones. Sub Inspector Nagardeep Sethy and Assistant Sub Inspector Upendra Behera sustained injury in the attack.

Police arrested five persons in the incident and forwarded them to court this morning.
