Govt staff hail Naveen for decision on 7th Pay Commission

CM Naveen PatnaikBhubaneswar: Gratitude poured in for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik from state government employees across Odisha after he announced the implementation of the much-awaited 7th Pay Commission recommendations with effect from September 1, 2017 yesterday’ in what is being seen as a ‘Dussehra gift’ for government staff.

Employees of the state secretariat greeted Patnaik with a huge garland on his arrival at the state secretariat today saying the decision would encourage them to perform better.

“We are extremely happy that our honourable Chief Minister announced the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations after a long wait of 20 months. We thank him for the decision. This will definitely encourage all the state government employees of the state to work harder and perform better which in turn will help the state to develop,” said an employee of the state secretariat.

Naveen’s decision was also appreciated by people from all walks of life, including political parties like BJP and BJD.

Patnaik announced the decision yesterday which would help about 4.5 lakh serving state government employees and about 3.5 lakh retired employees. They will get enhanced emoluments and higher pension respectively following the implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendations.

The state government will bear an additional annual expenditure of about Rs. 4500 crore a year due to the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission award.

The state government had constituted a Fitment Committee to look into the recommendations so as to arrive at a solution to implement the recommendations.

The Union Cabinet had approved the recommendations of 7th Pay Commission a year ago.
