Cuttack: Tension ran high in Odasingh village in Jodum gram panchayat of the district after goods worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a shop fire last night and its owner claimed foul play in the incident.

Smokes were seen billowing out of one Sridhar Dash’s grocery shop at around 12 PM in the night. Sridhar who used to sleep before the shop to guard it every night, immediately raised an alarm and gathered the villagers. Despite all efforts on the part of the villagers to bring the flames under control, the shop was reduced to ashes within minutes.

A fire brigade team from Narasinghpur reached the spot later in the day and prevented the flames from spreading to other houses in the locality.

However, Sridhar’s family suspected the hand of a group of people in the village over past political rivalry and lodged a complaint at the Jilinda Police Station in this connection.

While the exact cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, police have started investigation in the case.
