Good News! Odisha reports steep fall in Covid positive

Bhubaneswar: Amid the concerns of the rising number of Covid positives in different parts of India, Odisha on Saturday reported only one Covid case, informed to the Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department. The positive tally stands at 12,87,980.

Reportedly, the one Covid positive is a resident of Sambalpur district and is under quarantine. As many as 17 patients recovered in the last 24 hours following which the active cases in Odisha currently stand at 85.

It is for the first time over the last two years when Odisha reported a single case of COVID-19. The first case was detected in the State on March 16, 2020, when an Italy-returnee student’s sample tested positive for COVID.

Meanwhile, Odisha Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra has said that school children should undergo Covid tests if they develop flu-like symptoms like cold, and fever. Mohapatra also said that cold and fever do not only mean Covid infection, other viral infections may also cause cold.

Odisha Health & Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahi said that after the Centre’s approval, the states will receive a directive on vaccine administration to children in the 5-12 yrs age group.  Nearly 50 lakh children are in the 5-12 yrs age group, he added.

On the other hand, Director of Public Health Niranjan Mishra said that the pandemic is still there and everybody has to remain cautious, so cooperation from the people is very much essential and if infection escalates, restrictions may get imposed again.
