Gold Worth Rs 5 lakh seized At Bhubaneswar Airport

Bhubaneswar: Air Intelligence Unit of Customs seized gold weighing 150.9 grams from a passenger who arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport in an Air Asia flight from Bangkok last night. Customs officials said that the market value of the recovered gold was Rs5.33 lakh.

The Customs officials have detained the passenger hailing from Uttar Pradesh and the passenger is being further interrogated.  “During his personal search we found the chain concealed beneath the collar of T-shirt,” said an official.

Customs officials have seized 13.77 kilograms of gold in 2018-19 from Biju Patnaik International Airport making the city airport a hotspot for smuggling of the yellow metal. Customs officials said that seized gold valued Rs 4.46 crore while seven passengers were also arrested in this connection.
