Gold, silver ornaments worth over Rs 1 crore looted from jewellery shop in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments worth over Rs 1 crore from a jewellery shop near Delta Square in Bhubaneswar. The robbery reportedly took place last night but it came to light after a case was filed over the incident today.

According to reports, Khandagiri Police started an investigation after the owner of the Laxminarayan jewellery shop lodged a complaint alleging that gold and silver ornaments worth over Rs 1 crore were looted from his shop by breaking open the shutters.

“We knew about the robbery only when came to open the shop today at 9 am. I have no clue who has stolen the ornaments. At present it is difficult for me to suspect anyone as several people are coming to the shop every day,” said Omprakash Sahu, owner of the jewellery shop.

“We are unable to identify the robbers as they have changed the direction of the CCTVs and looted the CCTV DVR Machine as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, cops are on the spot and are carrying out the investigation. They are verifying the footages of the CCTV cameras installed at the jewellery shop and nearby area.

The looted valuables include 1 kg of gold ornaments, 10 kgs of silver ornaments and cash Rs 1.5 lakh, said sources.
