Gold jewellers cheat consumers in weight and measures in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Gold jewellers are cheating consumers in weight and measures across the state, said Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain on Wednesday.

Answering to a question, raised by Congress MLA Narasingha Mishra in the assembly, the Minister said the consumer welfare department had raided 31 jewellery shops during 2018-19 and 11 shops during the current year.

As many as seven jewellery shops in Cuttack, six in Balasore and four in Khordha were found to have cheated the consumers in weight and measure of gold ornaments during the raids, the Minister added

Meanwhile, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro directed the government to conduct raids at the jewellery shops located in Bhubaneswar and Berhampur cities.
