Angul: A girl was killed and her uncle sustained critical injury after an unidentified vehicle hit the scooter they were travelling by, on Gurujanguli bridge under Talcher here today today.
The deceased has been identified as Truptimayee Bhutia of Acharya Vihar area of Bhubaneswar.
Truptimayee who had completed her engineering course at Sarang college recently, had been to collect her certificate a few days back. She was staying at her uncle’s house and en-route to Talcher Thermal Station along with him this morning when the mishap took place.
An unknown vehicle hit the victim duo from behind on Gurujanga bridge after driver lost control over the wheels and fled away.
While Trurptimayee sustained severe head injury and died on the spot, her uncle was rushed to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
Angry locals staged a road blockade on Gurujanga bridge following the accident demanding arrest of the accused driver.
Police have seized the body for autopsy and started investigation into the crash.
