Cuttack: A huge stingray fish weighing about 300 kilograms was caught alive by some fishermen in Kandal River near Niali in Odisha’a Cuttack district on Friday.
According to reports, a group of local fishermen had set up fishing nets at Kundimuha Bridge when they spotted a giant fish entangled in their net.
Later, the fishermen identified the fish to be a Stingray locally called ‘Sankucha’ and immediately fished it out. The fish was 13 feet long and 7 feet wide, sources said.
Locals were left astounded with the rare catch when the fishermen put it on display and a big crowd collected around it.
On being informed, forest department officials reached the spot and rescued the fish. They later released the giant fish into the river.
