Ghana Lagi ritual of deities to be held at Puri Srimandir today

Puri: Following complete recovery of the ailing deities from the sickness caused by excessive bath during ‘Snana Purnima’ and ahead of the ‘Nabajoubana Darshan’ tomorrow, the ‘Ghana Lagi’ ritual of the holy trinity will be performed at Sri Jagannath temple here today.

As per the ritual, ‘Ghana’ or oil will be applied on the ‘Srianga’ or the body of the deities by servitors authorised for the ritual and will take 10-12 hours. The ritual is performed on the day of ‘Trayodashi’.

Post Ghanalagi servitors will take the ‘Khali Prasad’ specially prepared at their houses to Srimandir in a customary rally and offered that to the deities.

On ‘Chaturdashi’ tomorrow Datta Mohapatra servitors will perform the ‘Banak Lagi’ of deities in the final phase to ‘Nabajoubana Darshan’. During ‘Banak Lagi’ vegetative colours are used to regenerate the faces of our revered deities.

As per the schedule the ‘Banak Lagi’ ritual will start at 9 AM tomorrow morning and continue till 12 noon.

Post ‘Banak Lagi’ first ticket darshan will be conducted between 2.30 PM and 3.30 PM followed by public darshan till 4.30 PM.
