Geriatric Clinics to be set up in 5 Odisha cities

Oldage personsBhubaneswar: To provide quality health care to elderly persons in the state, the Government of Odisha on Thursday announced setting up  of 34 Geriatric Clinics in five different cities in the state under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

The Geriatric Clinics will be opened at various PHCs in Bhubaneswar (16), Cuttack (7), Berhampur (1), Rourkela (2) and Sambalpur (8), where senior citizens would get treatment on priority and concessions on charges.

The clinics will provide OPD services on a daily basis while physiotherapy services will be provided three days a week. Besides, a Medicine specialist will visit the clinic once a week. The patients will receive medicines free of cost under the Niramaya scheme.

The Union government will provide 60 per cent of the total cost, while the state government will bear the rest under the project.
