General darshan of deities to remain restricted at Srimandir for Paita Lagi, Banaka Lagi

Puri: General darshan of deities by devotees will remain suspended at Puri Srimandir for four hours today due to the performing of ‘Paita Lagi’ ritual.

Informing on the restrictions imposed on the general darshan the temple authorities said, it will remain in effect from 5 pm to 9 pm in the evening. The restriction will also continue tomorrow evening for ‘Banaka Lagi’ ritual, which happens to be a secret ritual.

In the Banaka Lagi ritual, fresh colours are applied on the deities. This ritual takes place at the temple for about seven to eight times in a year. Special servitors namely, Datta Mohapatras from Chhatisha Nijoga carry out the ritual on a hereditary basis.
