Bhubaneswar: A major mishap was averted due to presence of mind of a gateman at the level crossing near VSS Nagar between Bhubaneswar and Mancheswar today.
Railway officials said that a herd of buffalo came to the middle of the train line when Bhubaneswar-Anand Vihar Superfast Express via Angul was approaching.
The gateman A.K Tripathy swung into action and showed red signal to loco pilot and the train stopped before the level crossing.
“The presence of mind of the gateman avoided the accident. Apart from this, he also avoided the traffic problem which could have been created if the accident happened,” said a railway official.
