Berhampur: A notorious criminal was injured following an encounter with police near Jayshree Chemical Road under Ganjam block in the Odisha’s Ganjam district on the wee hours on Saturday.
The accused Susant Behera alias Koko is a native of Rajib Nagar in Gosani Nuagan here.
The criminal, who sustained bullet injuries in his left leg during the encounter, was rushed to SD Hospital in Chhatrapur for treatment. He was later shifted to MKCG Medical College & Hospital here.
Based on the intelligence input about Susant’s presence in Ganjam area, a Police team swung into action and raided the place. Seeing the cop, Susant opened fire at them in a bid to escape. In retaliation, the police too fired and Susant was hit in his leg.
Two constables of Police team also received minor injuries in the shootout.
Police seized one mouser, two live cartridges, one motorcycle and two mobile phones from the spot
The accused was involved in a series of offences including the murderous attack on Sudhir Padhi of Ganjam. He was wanted in several cases of Ganjam and Berhampur police districts, police said.
