Ganjam Bride stages dharna: Woman performs ‘Manabasa Gurubar’ outside in-laws’ house

Berhampur: In the case of a woman staging dharna in front of his claimed in-laws’ house, she performed the rituals of Manabasa Gurubar outside the house on Thursday. As a symbol of protest for her demands she performed the puja outside the house.

It is to be noted that prevalent mostly in Odisha, the rituals of Manabasa Gurubar are performed by the woman of the house. Goddess Laxmi is worshipped on this occasion.

It is to be noted that dressed in her bridal attire, the woman has been staging dharna outside her in-laws’ house after her claimed husband allegedly ditched her at the mandap on their wedding day in Odisha’s Berhampur.

The bride, identified as Tapaswini Dash (also called Dimple), and groom, Sumeet Sahu, were reportedly legally married at a marriage registrar’s office a while ago. The families had allegedly decided to solemnize the marriage through customary Hindu rituals on November 22. However, when Dimple and her family were waiting for the groom side at the wedding venue, the groom and his family did not turn up. Even they did not allegedly respond to phone calls.

Hence, later Tapaswini and her mother decided to go to the home of the in-laws and stage a dharna in front of their house.
