Ganja worth Rs 50 lakh seized in Bhubaneswar, inter-state smuggler held

Bhubaneswar: Tightening the noose around the necks of cannabis traders in the capital city Bhubaneswar, the Excise Department officials seized around 10 quintal ganja by conducting a raid in Kolathia area of Khandagiri today.

Cops also arrested a person identified as Subala Samantaray from the spot during the raid.

Acting upon a tip-off on the cannabis trade which was continuing clandestinely inside a duplex building in Kolathia area, a team of anti-narcotics officials rushed to the spot in the morning and seized a number of sacks containing the drugs. Later, Samantray was taken into custody.

“The worth of the ganja seized today will be around Rs 50 lakh. Subala who happens to be an inter-state ganja smuggler was running illegal drug business in the capital city by bringing ganja consignments from Mohana area of Gajapati district. He had taken the duplex building which was raided today on rent to store the ganja packets,” informed Excise sleuths.

Interrogation of the held accused is underway to extract more information on the members of his racket.
