Malkangiri: Acting on a tip-off, Bhubaneswar Narcotics Control Bureau and the district police seized 1,500 kg ganja worth Rs 1.5 crore from a truck near Balimela area in the district on Sunday.
Driver and helper of the truck were arrested by the police. Besides, four mobile phones and some cash were also recovered from their possession.
According to sources, Bhubaneswar Narcotics Control Bureau and Orkel police officials intercepted a salt-laden truck (AP 21 TU 2268) near Balimela and found the contraband stuffed in packets. The ganja was being transported to Maharashtra from the district.
The arrested persons are, meanwhile, being interrogated by the cops.
Notably, Orkel police had arrested three persons for allegedly smuggling 10 quintals of ganja near Pilakusimi forest in the district on May 20.
