Ganja over 1 quintal seized in Koraput, 7 held

Jeypore: Launching a crackdown on illegal drug traders in Koraput district, police seized over a quintal of ganja after conducting a raid in Padua village under Nandapur Tehsil last night and arrested seven peddlers.
The ganja consignment was caught after a patrolling team of Jeypore police which intercepted two cars on suspicion and searched them. During the search cops found several sacks of ganja kept inside the vehicles and seized those.
Seven persons who were boarding the vehicles at the time of raid including the driver duo were taken into custody by police.
Police said the ganja consignment which would cost lakhs was being sent to Angul district.
On May 6 this year, Jeypore Town Police had arrested three persons and seized a ganja consignment of around two quintals from their possession after intercepting a Mahindra Bolero on Jeypore-Boriguma road on NH-26. The banned drug was being sent to the neighbouring Chhattisgarh, police claimed then.
