Jajpur: In a major success to the Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha Police against wanted criminals in the state, it succeeded in arresting dreaded Kendrapara gangster Tito alias Syed Usman Ali following an encounter near Chandikhol in the district on Saturday.
Crime Branch swung into action this morning after it got a tip-off on the whereabouts of Tito, who was on the run since long. A team of Crime Branch’s Special Task Force (STF) led by DIG Himanshu Lal took part in the raid on the hideout of Tito in Chandikhol.
As per the STF officials Tito opened fire at police team finding it approaching him. He sustained bullet injury on his left leg after the STF members returned fire in self-defence and was nabbed subsequently. Three more aides of Tito were also taken into custody from the spot.
Tito was rushed to Badachana Community Health Centre (CHC) following the encounter where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
The caught criminal was involved in a number of cases including firing and extortion under different police stations across the state, said a senior official of STF. He was also involved in the firing incident of March 29 which took place in Jagatpur of Cuttack district and left suspected terror operative Abdul Rehman’s brother Tahir injured.
