Gangster Raja Acharya Arrested By Malgodown Police

Cuttack: Gangster Sandeep Acharya alias Raja was today arrested by Malgodown police station on the basis of an NBW issued against him by a local court in Cuttack.

Police said that the case in which an NBW was issued against him pertains to an attempt to murder in 2004. “He was nabbed from a safe hideout in Bhubaneswar and he will be further interrogated,” said a police official.

Police sources said that around 40 cases were registered against Raja in various police stations in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

Raja was the main accused of killing judo coach Biranchi Das in April 2008 in Bhubaneswar. Biranchi who was also the coach of child prodigy and marathon kid Budhia Singh was allegedly shot dead by two motorcycle-borne assailants in front of the Odisha Judo Association building at Kalpana Square on April 13, 2008. Raja was later arrested from Goa on May 28 the same year.

Police said that Raja was released from Jharapada bail on bail in April last year.
