Sambalpur: Tightening the noose around the necks of gamblers in the district, police on Friday busted a gambling den in Sambalpur town and arrested at least nine persons red-handed from the spot.
The raid was conducted be Dhanupali Police in the morning after it got a tip-off on the gambling spree which was taking place in a posh hotel.
During the raid cops also found Rs 3.80 lakh from the possession of the gamblers and seized them.
Police said it suspects the role of a racket behind the gambling spree. The racket was probably organising such parties regularly and was luring new customer everyday through various means.
Notably, in a similar incident Bellaguntha Police in Ganjam district had nabbed 10 gamblers and seized cash worth Rs 15,000 along with a number of mobile phones and bikes from their possession after conducting a raid at Jiliba village. Earlier on February 4 this year, the Commissionerate Police had busted a gambling den which was functioning near the Ganga Mandir in Cuttack town and arrested 17 gamblers.
