Gambling den busted in Angul & Ganjam district, 30 arrested

Angul: As many as six people were arrested after a surprise raid was conducted at a field near Khamar village under Chhendipada village limits in Angul district on Thursday night while the gambling was being organised. Among the six arrested, one has been identified to be a teacher of Raipala village.

Acting on a tip-off,  Officer of Bagedia Police Outpost Ashis Kumar Dash along with his team conducted a raid in the area. On seeing police officers, some gamblers managed to flee away from the spot. However, the team of police officers apprehended six people from the spot.

The cops have seized nine motorbikes, Rs 8,300 cash, one mobile and other incriminating materials from their possession. A case has been filed against the arrested gamblers and have been forwarded to the court.

In a similar case, several gamblers have been arrested during a raid at various places in Ganjam district. The officers of every police station have initiated a special drive against the crime as the festive season is ahead.

Kabisuryanagar police officials have held 10 gamblers, seized cash worth Rs 1,18,000 and 15 motorcycles from their possession. Besides, Polasara police officials have also arrested 10 gamblers, seized cash worth lakhs and 11 bikes from their possession. The officials of Tarasingi police station have arrested four people in connection with the illegal business.
