High level fraud in Odisha: Fake vigilance officer arrested by STF
Fake vigilance officer arrested in Odisha by STF for several counts of offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Puri: The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha police has arrested a fraud vigilance officer from Puri district of Odisha for committing a number of offences.
The STF has arrested the man for committing various counts of offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) such as Cheating, Forgery, Extortion and Impersonating as a vigilance officer in front of a number of people.
During the investigation, it was ascertained that the accused identified as Manoj Kumar Majhi, the son of Debendra Majhi of Phulbari post office under Titipa police station of Krushnaprasad block in Puri.
It is worth mentioning that the accused impersonated himself as an SP, Vigilance and demanded Rs. 1 Crore from the complainant, an Additional Chief engineer as well as one other person.
Accordingly a raid was conducted in his village that is Phulbari post office, Titipa police station of Krushnaprasad and was apprehended.
During the interrogation the accused admitted that he was trying to extort money from various government officials as well as some contractors impersonating himself as a senior vigilance officer.
It is also ascertained that the accused had cheated some persons promising to arrange government jobs. The investigation, so far, revealed that the accused is a highly qualified person having qualification of MSc in Chemistry and PhD Degree from Sambalpur University.
The accused has tried to cheat or extort the following persons, namely:

- PA to ITDA, Koraput
- PD, DRDA, Mayurbhanj
- Spl. Secretary EIC (C), Bhubaneswar
- A.C.E, Khordha
- S.E, Khordha
- PD, DRDA, Khordha
- DCPO, Puri
- DCPO, Khordha
- DCPO, Rayagada
- E.E, R & B, Division Cuttack
- And Many contractors
The accused was arrested and will be forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Bhubaneswar today i.e. 7.5.2023. The investigation is underway, said reports. All are requested to not to fall in the trap of such impersonators and conmen.
