Four-feet water-logging on Puri Bada Danda leaves many tourists stranded

Puri: Many tourists were left stranded in Puri as the Bada Danda (Grand Road) was submerged under four-feet water after heavy rains on Sunday.

Hundreds of tourists, including from neighbouring states, visited the Pilgrim City to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath as today was a holiday, but they were left stranded at different locations of the city due to massive water-logging.

Vehicular movement was also disrupted due to the water-logging.

Hospital Chowk, Balagandi and Mausima Temple were the major spots where water-logging was reported from.

Water-logging has disappointed many visitors who questioned the works of Puri Municipality.

Many local intellectuals also backed the visitors saying that the Grand Road gets routinely flooded as there is no proper drainage system. Crores of rupees were granted during the 2015-Nabakalebara for drainage and sanitation. But the all that money has clearly gone down the drain as it were.

If this is the condition with a rain of two to four hours, then what would be the situation if it rains for two to four days as it has been predicted by the Meteorological department, they wondered.
