Koraput: Four children including two siblings died after drowning in Kolab Reservoir in Lamtaput area of Koraput district on Monday. The minors drowned while taking bath in the water reservoir.
The deceased have been identified as Padu Bhoi’s son Susant Bhoi (2) and daughter Laxmi Bhoi (9), Chaitanya Bhoi’s son Sanjay (7) and Bholu Majhi’s daughter Sabita Majhi (8). All of them are the residents of Parjakhudbi village.
According to reports, Padu Bhoi had gone to work in the paddy filed close to the reservoir. His children – Susant and Laxmi – had taken food for him. Their neighbours also accompanied them. Later, they went to take bath in the reservoir and died after drowning in the reservoir.
On being informed by Padu Bhoi, firefighters and some locals rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies of the children after a long search operation, informed Lamtaput Medical Officer Manas Dhal.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem and an investigation is on into the incident, Dhal added.
A pall of gloom descended on Parjakhudbi village and nearby villages following the unfortunate death of the kids.
