Four Arrested for Murder in Bargarh

Bargarh: Police today arrested four members of a gang involved in the murder of a man in Jarmuda village under Bargarh Town police limits on June 10. Police said that the gang is also involved in intimidating the Sarpanch of Mahada panchayat on gunpoint in Barapali on June 23.

The accused have been identified as Lal Bibek Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Rajesh Singh of Bihar, Nakula Majhi of Bargarh and Manoj Budhia of Balangir. Police have also seized three firearms, six rounds of live ammunition, two motorcycles and a car from the accused.

Superintendent of Police, Bargarh, Mukesh Kumar Bhamoo said that the accused killed Basant Pradhan after they failed in loot attempt. “The accused had entered the house of Hiralal Mahanta in Jarmuda village to commit dacoity. However they killed Pradhan after he resisted them,” said Bhamoo.

Police said that another member of the gang Rakesh Behera had shot himself after he came under police scanner for the murder. “The murder case was a tricky one as police investigation did not reveal the angle of past enmity. A team of police visited several neighbouring states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Chhattisgarh to nab the accused. We are further verifying the antecedents of the accused,’ added the SP.
