Former Odisha Fire DGP Binay Behera breaths his last

OdishaBhubaneswar: Former DG of Odisha Fire Services and Home Guard Binay Kumar Behera passed away after a brief illness at a private hospital in the city last night. He was 60 .

Behera was in coma after being rushed to the hospital on November 1, after suffering from pneumonia. Later, he was undergoing dialysis following a kidney failure. However, Behera’s condition deteriorated since November 3 and he was put under ventilator and breathed his last at around 11PM last night.

Behera had retired from his service recently on October 31.

A 1982-batch IPS officer and known for his multi-talented personality, Behera had served as the first Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate after it came into effect in 2008.

Following Behera’s death several senior IPS officers including Odisha Police DG R P Sharma, Special DG Odisha Police Intelligence Arun Sarangi, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi, twin city Police Commissioner YB Khurania and Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi reached the hospital paid their last tribute.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also took to twitter and expressed grief over the demise of the able police officer.

Similarly, DGP Fire, HG & CD Odisha Bijay Kumar Sharma also tweeted his deep anguish over the demise of Behera.

Behera’s mortal remains would be consigned to flames at Puri Swargadwara today.
