Former MP Baijayant Panda joins BJP

New Delhi: Putting all speculations to the rest, former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda, who quit Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in May last year, joined the BJP at the party’s national headquarters here on Monday.

Panda joined the saffron party in the presence of BJP’s Odisha in-charge Arun Singh, Union Ministers Jual Oram, Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha BJP State president Basant Panda and Legislative Party leader KV Singh Deo.

On January 24, 2018, BJD supremo and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had suspended Panda from the primary membership of the party for his anti-party activities.

Later, the former Lok Sabha MP quit the conch party in May last year and resigned from the membership of the Parliament.

Panda was elected to Lok Sabha in 2009 and 2014 from Kendrapara Lok Sabha constituency. Earlier, he was elected to Rajya Sabha twice from BJD.
