Former minister and tribal leader Chaitanya Prasad Majhi no more

Bhubaneswar: Noted tribal leader and former deputy minister for petroleum and chemicals in Union Cabinet, Chaitanya Prasad Majhi breathed his last in the city this morning. He was 90.

Majhi, who had been admitted to Capital Hospital in the city following a breathing problem passed away at around 7.10 am, informed hospital sources.

Born on November 19, 1929 in Mayurbhanj district, late Majhi became the education and youth affair minister in Biju Patanik ministry from 1990 to 1995 and also shouldered the responsibility of a union minister earlier. A member of Orissa Public Service Commission (OPSC) from 1979-85, the late leader also served as the member of Academic Council of North Orissa University from 1998-2000.

Expressing his condolence on the demise of the tribal leader Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik said, Odisha lost one of its great sons with the passing of late Majhi. He had contributed immensely for the development of Odisha and its tribal people, Naveen added.
