Former bureaucrat Aparajita Sarangi joins BJP

New Delhi: Former Odisha cadre IAS officer Aparajita Sarangi today joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here today.

Sarangi was formally inducted into the saffron party by BJP national president Amit Shah in the presence of Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, party’s Odisha head Basant Panda and In-charge Arun Singh.

She is scheduled to visit Odisha tomorrow to receive an welcome from the state unit of BJP at Bhubaneswar.

Soon after joining politics Sarangi expressed her commitment to public service and said she wants to devote her entire life for this purpose.

“Politics is a means to serve people in a broader way. I left my 11-year-old career in government service for this purpose only. I joined BJP after being inspired by the unique working style of PM Modi,” said the former bureaucrat in her reaction.

Notably, Sarangi took voluntary retirement as a public servant recently to start her new journey.

Sarangi’s application under Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) had been accepted by the Odisha Government on November 14 after being submitted on September 15. She had completed her tenure as Joint Secretary of MGNREGA under Ministry of Rural Development in August this year.

Sarangi, a 1994-batch IAS officer, got widespread acclamation in the state for her bold measures as the BMC Commissioner from 2006 to 2009. She also worked as School and Mass Education Secretary, Director of Panchayati Raj Department, Higher Education Secretary along with Textiles and Handloom Secretary.
