Former Aska MLA Saroj Kumar Padhi quits Congress

Bhanjanagar: In what could be dubbed as a setback to Congress’ effort to gain new energy in Odisha under the leadership of Niranjan Patnaik, a senior party leader and former Aska MLA Saroj Kumar Padhi resigned from the party today.

Padhi sent his resignation to the OPCC president today bearing signatures of former block Congress president Ajit Kumar Chourdhury and several other supporters also.

Later, addressing at a press conference along with Choudhury at Aska sugar industries guest house, the former Aska MLA said he had mentioned a four point cause in his resignation letter by maintaining that it was his wrong decision to join Congress a few years back.

“My soul aim is to work towards the development the Aska area and I felt that it is not possible by staying in Congress party. Maintaining the dignity of Aska is also our objective and we could join any party which guarantees it,” said Padhi.

Notably, Padhi had won from the Aska as an MLA in 2004 by contesting as an independent candidate. Later he joined Congress Party.
