Bhubaneswar: Another accused in the Bomikhal flyover collapse case, the Assistant Engineer of Panda Infra, Kishore Rout, surrendered before Commissionerate Police here today. He was arrested following the surrender.
Rout was on the run since the flyover collapse on Sunday killing one and injuring 20 others. Refuting the charge that he was absconding, he claimed that he was rather preparing to surrender to the police. Rout also showed a doctor’s prescription as proof that he was under treatment for an illness and could not reach police in the last two days.
Rout also dismissed the theory of “sub-standard” work being constantly raised by the media and said all guidelines were followed in the construction of the flyover. Informing that he personally took stock of the construction work, Rout informed that he was at the site till 75% of the slab laying work was completed and left for lunch just before the incident.
Meanwhile, another person charged in the case, Panda Infra’s project manager Vipul Chakravorthy, was also arrested later in the day.
