Flood panic hits Malkangiri, all rivers in spate

Malkangiri: Even as the State Government geared up its machinery to combat situations arising out of heavy rain triggered by the landfall of cyclonic storm ‘Daye’ in southern Odisha, a flood-like situation was witnessed in Malkangiri since last night.

As per the report, the fear of flash flood prevailed across the district following heavy downpour. While all eight rivers in the district have gone into spate a rise in the water level over 10 feet in Pangam river submerged Malkangiri-Jeypore road by cutting-off road communication with the neighbouring Chhattisgarh State.

Similarly, Poteru river in Kalimela tehsil also went into spate due to which flood water gushed into Tarlakata and Sikapali areas this morning submerging a major part of these two areas under 5-6 feet of water.

In view of the flood situation, the district administration has pulled its socks and ordered all tehsildars and RIs to remain alert to tackle the possible eventuality. Similarly, a toll free number has also been launched to help flood affected people.
