Berhmapur: Tension prevailed at Dauni Chhak of Gaudagaon in Digapahandi block of Ganjam district today after a five-year-old boy was killed after being run over by a private bus.
The incident took place when the deceased identified as Silu Sahu was getting down from the bus with his mother.
Eyewitnesses said that the bus mowed down the kid when the mother-son duo was getting down from the bus. “We immediately rushed him to the Goudagaon PHC where he was declared received dead. The driver of the bus, however, managed to escape from the spot,” said an eyewitness.
Irate locals later staged a road blockade demanding arrest of the driver and compensation to the bereaved family of the deceased child. Police have started an investigation and are trying to nab the driver of the bus.
