Five More Arrested In Ganjam Witchcraft Violence
Berhampur: Police have arrested five more persons in witchcraft-related violence where a group of people from Gopapur village had assaulted six persons and forced them to eat human excreta.
Earlier the police had arrested 29 persons, including 22 women for their involvement in the incident.
Tensions had gripped Gopapur two weeks ago after some villagers suddenly fell sick and three of them died. The villagers suspected some sorcery practitioners behind the ailments and deaths.
Later, the irate villagers called up a sorcerer to identify the alleged witchcraft practitioners. Based on details given by the sorcerer, the villagers had tortured the victims.
The victims, all men over 60 years, are undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
