Five arrested for trafficking Odisha woman to MP

Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha police on Monday arrested five persons including three women for trafficking and selling a Dalit woman from Puri in Madhya Pradesh.

The accused were identified as Rama Krishna (38), Mina Das, Manorama Barik alias Jati, Bidu Behera and Pravati Sahu.

All of them, meanwhile, have been forwarded to the court.

According to reports, MP’s Ashok Nagar police and Puri police, in a joint effort, had rescued one Suryakanti Mallick (35) of Bauribasta in Puri Sadar police from Janada village under Ashok Nagar police limits in Guna district of MP.

Mallick, a mother of four children, was trafficked and being sold for Rs 55,000 by the accused persons. She was forced to marry a man.

After learning about the incident from the victim, the Crime Branch had registered a case under Section 365, 366, 370 and 120-B of IPC and had started an investigation into the matter.

During the course of the investigation, the CB, led by DSP Nilima Panda, arrested the accused persons today.

The victim alleged that she was enticed by the accused person to work at Hyderabad for good earning and was taken to Janada village.

The accused persons handed over her to one Dasarath Singh Yadav taking a sum of Rs 55,000 promising that the victim Suryakanta is unmarried and will marry him. Leaving Suryakanti there the accused persons left the village.

Subsequently, the victim was forced to marry but protested to remain as husband and wife telling that she is married and mother of four children.

On getting information the parents of Suryakanti went there and requested Dasarath Singh Yadav to leave their daughter. Later, after the intervention of Ashok Nagar police and Puri police, Dasarath Singh Yadav allowed the Dalit Suryakati to return home.

Ram Krishna Ray of Janada (MP), who presently staying at Batagaon (Nuagaon) in Puri Sadar police limits is the mastermind of trafficking of the victim with the help of other accused persons.
