First UDAN flight to take off from Jharsuguda in February

Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to regional air connectivity in the state, flight operations from Jharsuguda airport would start in February next year and all preparations have been completed in this direction, said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi on Wednesday.

Informing media persons soon after chairing a coordination meet at Secretariat yesterday, Padhi said the first flight from Jharsuguda airport is expected to take-off in the first week of February. The flight connecting Jharsuguda to Raipur and Jagdalpur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh State would be the first of its kind under Central Government’s Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme under Phase-I implementation to stimulate regional connectivity.

Notably, Jharsuguda happens to be one among the four airstrips which were developed into airports for the implementation of UDAN scheme in the state. Other airport inline for the scheme like Rourkela, Utkela and Jeypore airstrips would be ready subsequently, said Padhi.

The average price of a ticket for the flights from these airports would be around Rs 2500, says sources.

Flights from Bhubaneswar to Utkela, Rourkela, Jeypore, Jharsuguda along with Utklela to Raipur and Jharsuguda to Ranchi would be availed under the regional connectivity scheme.
