First Total Knee Replacement Surgery Conducted By Railway Doctors Under ECoR

Khordha: A team of Railway doctors from Divisional Railway Hospital, Khurda Road has successfully conducted a ‘ total knee replacement (TKR) surgery’ of a retired Railway employee at Railway Hospital, Khurda Road.

Railway officials said that such operation was the first by regular Railway doctors of Indian Railway Medical Services under East Coast Railway.

G Narasingha Rao (77) a retired Railway employee was suffering from severe “Osteoarthritis” right knee joint for the last 3 years with severe bending deformity of the knee.

Rao also felt difficulty in walking, sitting and carrying out daily activities for which he underwent the surgery on Wednesday.

The entire surgery lasted for around 105 minutes with minimal blood loss by using modern techniques. The surgical team of doctors included Bhabani Sankar Behera, Divisional Medical Officer (Orthopedic), K.K Senapati, Asst Chief Medical Superintendent (Anesthesia) and M Mahesh Kumar, Sr Divisional Medical Officer (Anesthesia)/Waltair.

Shashikant Singh, Divisional Railway Manager, Khurda Road has congratulated the team of doctors for their success.
