First Dengue Death of the Year in Odisha

dengueCuttack: In the first case of death due to dengue in Odisha this year, a 35 year old person on Wednesday succumbed to the mosquito borne disease at the Sriram Chandra Bhanjadeo (SCB) Medical College and Hospital here.

The deceased has been identified as Somprakash Mishra, a resident of Chhapra region in Bihar. He had been staying with his family in the port city of Paradeep for quite sometimes.

Mishra was admitted to SCB Hospital on Monday after he complained of severe body ache, high fever and recurrent bouts of nausea. He tested positive for dengue virus and was admitted to the central ICU of the hospital.

Currently, as many as 16 persons confirmed as having dengue after tests are being treated at the SCB Hospital.

The death comes at a time when The Twin City of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar have already registered three deaths due to swine flu and around 60 persons tested positive for the H1N1 virus.
