Fire safety notice to 26 Malls, Hotels in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The State Fire Services department on Wednesday issued notices to as many as 26 Shopping malls, hotels, Jewellery showrooms and other establishments here for violating fire safety norms. Kalyan jewellers, the leading jewellery showroom in the state capital, was first to receive the notice.

The department has set two months’ deadline for the owners of the establishments to set right the fire safety violations.

In case,  the building owners failed to adopt the safety mechanism within the stipulated time, action will be taken against them according to Orissa fire prevention and fire safety rules of 2017, the notices read.

Recently, some parts of various hotels including The New Marion, Hotel Suryansh and Hotel Seetal were sealed after a fire safety inspection was conducted in the city.

The Odisha Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Rules came into force in last October that make it mandatory for hospitals, nursing homes, cinema halls and malls to adhere to fire safety norms.
